Pre-grade 5 Foundation Course
in Music Notation and Theory
Pre-grade 5 Foundation Course
If you have already played an instrument up to a moderate level (grade 4 or 5 for example) you will probably have picked up the basics in music theory and be ready to start a Grade 5 course. However you may feel that you would like to properly understand the fundamentals of music notation such as the stave (or music staff), musical notes names in the treble clef and bass clef and note values such as quavers, crotchets, minims and semibreves (we will offer separate classes for students who use American terminology such as quarter-notes etc). You may want to identify piano notes, and moving on from these building blocks, we can consider how music can be played/sung at different speeds called tempos and begin to learn a few more Italian words used in music.
We recommend taking advantage of our free 15 minute video consultation to discuss what may be most appropriate for you.
